There are 3 ways to reach Bromo from Yogyakarta; first, you can take a flight from Adisucipto International Airport in Yogyakarta to Juanda International Airport in Surabaya, the flight only takes about an hour then drive from Surabaya to Mount Bromo by private car for 3 hours.
This is a highly recommended method if you have very limited days in Indonesia. Second, you can take the train from Yogyakarta to Surabaya, the cost of the train is much cheaper than the plane but you have to stay on the train for more than 4 hours then you will drive from Surabaya to Mount Bromo for about 3 hours, this method is highly recommended if want to get experience about Indonesian trains. Third is taking a private car from Yogyakarta to Mount Bromo, this is not recommended at all as the journey will take around 10 hours, even more if traffic jams.
The last one is to take the bus from Yogyakarta to Surabaya, this is the same as the third way where you will sit on the bus for more than 5 hours and you have to look for a bus to Probolinggo for about 4 hours, then when you arrive at the Probolinggo bus station, you have to look for a minibus that going up to Mount Bromo area, and this is not recommended for you at all because you will waste a lot of time and even you can be jacked up by someone at the bus station.
